The Alchemy of Light and Pigment
In my abstract works, color is never static. What appears blue from one angle may suddenly ignite into red with a shift in light. These paintings are alive — constantly transforming, shaped by the ever-changing dialogue between pigments and perception. Each piece is a choreography of reflection and refraction, where light unveils hidden hues and pigments defy expectations. This kinetic relationship between material and movement defines the essence of my work.
From Industry to Illumination
I don’t source my colors from art supply stores. My materials come straight from the heart of the pigment and cosmetic industry — often long before they reach the market. In my atelier, I experiment with these raw, high-end pigments to create exclusive formulations that breathe life into my paintings. Some of these colorants will only appear years later in luxury cosmetics — but in my work, they find their first expression. Each hue is a discovery, each texture a step in the transformation from pigment to brilliance.
Framing the Soul of the Painting
Every painting is framed — not merely to enclose it, but to complete it. Each frame is custom-crafted with a shadow gap and carefully matched to the tones and personality of the artwork. This seamless harmony between frame and painting enhances the overall effect and adds a sense of depth, elegance, and precision. On request, pieces can also be delivered unframed — but in most cases, the frame is an integral part of the visual composition.

RAFKA
Born in 1986 and raised in the canton of Zurich, RAFKA merges science and emotion into visual poetry. With a background in business and a diploma from ZHAW Winterthur, he spent over 14 years in the chemical industry—advising producers in cosmetics, coatings, and packaging on cutting-edge pigment innovations.
In 2018, he founded his studio in Zollikon-Zurich. Since then, RAFKA’s works—characterized by their brilliance, depth, and ever-changing hues—have been exhibited across Switzerland. His creations are more than paintings: they are light-responsive experiences.
Pigments reimagined
Through his expertise in specialty chemicals, RAFKA discovered a creative void—conventional pigments could not achieve the effects he envisioned. Driven by curiosity and artistic precision, he began crafting his own color formulations. These high-end pigments, often years ahead of their commercial release, became the soul of his work. What begins in the lab evolves into luminous, living surfaces on canvas.

No formula is ever repeated—each blend is guided by emotion, energy, and instinct.
